The trio will run high-net-worth client portfolios for advisers from a new Winchester office
Marlborough has hired three investment managers from Rathbones to expand its Personal Portfolio service, which runs bespoke discretionary portfolios for financial advisers’ high-net-worth clients.
Ian Hardcastle joins as co-head of private clients, sharing the role with Edward Kennedy, who has run the service since it opened to advisers in 2025. Stephen Bennett and Oliver Northover join as investment directors, alongside portfolio manager Rory Dowie, the firm said on 13 October.
The three bring more than 65 years of combined investment experience and will be based in a new Marlborough office in Winchester, Hampshire. The Personal Portfolio team sits within the group’s wider multi-asset solutions investment team.
Marlborough, an independently owned investment group with more than £25bn of assets under management across the business, opened the Personal Portfolio service to the wider adviser market in April 2025.
“The expectations of high-net-worth clients are evolving,” said Richard Goodall, chief executive of Marlborough Group, adding that clients were increasingly choosing values-driven businesses.
Hardcastle said: “In Marlborough, all three of us recognised an independently owned business with exciting growth plans.” He said the team was looking forward to working in partnership with advisers.
